Discipline Without Shouting or Spanking:
Practical Solutions to the Most Common
Preschool Behaviour Problems

by Jerry Wyckoff, PH. D. and Barbara C. Unell.

The above book is focused on how to stay calm while disciplining your children. Specific preschool behavior problems are discussed. Descriptions of various problems are provided, then the authors talk about preventing the problem and finally, solving the problem (what to do and what not to do). They end with a real life, frequently occurring case example about how a parent successfully handled a problem.

The practical solutions focus around using time outs, not giving attention to the "negative" behavior and using the time clock game etc. This book is very easy reading and reinforces the basic concepts of parenting in the nineties. The book is a good resource for parents struggling with basic parenting issues. However, if you as a professional are looking for new learning this would not be the resource. As a teaching tool for parents struggling with basic parenting problems, I would rate it on a scale of 1 to 10, an 8.
